Aleksei Fedyarov – Man in Jail with Czarne/Poland

new publication

Polish language edition published by Czarne

Aleksei Fedyarov is not only a public opponent to the Putin regime with his book MAN IN JAIL, he is also a human rights activist and now head of the legal department of the «Rus Sidyashchi» Charity Fund, the only fund that helps Russian prisoners and their families. Olga Romanova, the founder of «Rus Sidyashchi», had to leave Russia for personal safety reasons.

Fedyarov has also written the frightening dystopia SFUMATO which is shrewdly realistic and almost prophetic, with the author drawing on his own knowledge and experience from today’s prison and law enforcement system in Russia.

Russian titles critical of the regime

new special selection

Russian titles critical of the regime

At all times, authors writing in Russian have critically examined the ruling Russian regime, presented, analyzed and questioned the grievances in their own society. And they have not been deterred in recent years as the risk of being targeted has increased. Real authentic literature has always kept itself away from pursuing propagandistic goals. In this respect, it is difficult for me to present a selection from the agency’s titles under the heading „regime-critical“ – as if the other authors and books represented by the agency were uncritical of the regime in the Kremlin.

But because you can’t see it at first glance, and because in unsettling times like these, well-established categories sometimes falter, this SPECIAL SELECTION would like to offer a quick initial orientation. In the end, good literature is about what’s in it, not what’s on it.

Published as a book nearly sixteen years later, this diary became a lyrical epic masterpiece, earning recognition and praise of both critics and readers. The book was awarded the Solzhenitsyn Prize

UKRAINE – special focus

new list

titles by Ukrainian authors in various genres

Besides authors from Ukraine which have been with the agency for a long time already, we are glad to present new names on a SPECIAL FOCUS LIST.

There is a feeling of unease in writing to be „glad“ about authors whose world has been irrevocably altered by an unprovoked war. Most of them are trapped in the Ukraine right now. Bringing their voices to the outside world is all we as a literary agency can do at the moment. Telling stories and explaining complex events remain crucial in a world that values peace.

Some of these authors are new to the agency but already renowned at least for German readers. Some of them are totally new names to the audience abroad but of course not to readers in their home country.

Valery Bochkov – Literary America Festival Award

new award

Literary America Festival Award for
«for creative courage and wide range of views»

The great similarity with present-day characters and events in  Valery Bochkov’s trilogy KHARON-CORONATION OF THE BEAST-MY BROTHER CAIN is deliberate and strengthens the breath-taking effect of experiencing the historically possibility in a seemingly live transmission. Whether the future of Russian history is being written in these three books, or whether the reading will write a new future, only time will tell.

.After Ernest Hemingway Award (Canada 2016) and the Russian Award (Russia 2014) this  new award is for his work in general.

This trilogy is included in the SPECIAL RIGHTS LIST with a selection of books written in Russian or Belarusian and very critical to the Russian regime.
